Carl Johnson

Carl is an Advisor & Principal of the New England Consulting Group, and a key member of our CPG and healthcare practice teams.

With over 30 years of general management experience, Carl has a proven track record of strong leadership and success transforming businesses including established brands, start-ups and turn-arounds. Carl is adept at securing capital funding, initiating and executing successful brand strategies and driving immediate results. His deep industry knowledge across the healthcare complex, including OTC pharmaceuticals, medical devices and VMS, makes Carl a vital team member at NECG.
Carl’s career began at Compton Advertising in Account Management for the Package Soap & Detergent Division of Procter & Gamble. From there, Carl dedicated 15 years to Johnson & Johnson where he successfully led the marketing efforts for the iconic line of Johnson & Johnson Baby Care Products. Subsequently, Carl moved to become Vice President of Marketing & Sales for Vistakon/a Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Company where he spearheaded transformative product development including the launch of the first disposable contact lens.

Adept at strategy and execution, Carl continued to make his mark as Vice President of Business Development for L. Perrigo Co. on Rx to OTC switch products including branded and private label marketing. From there, he was recruited as CEO/President and Board member for Matrixx Initiatives, Inc. where he successfully strengthened the Zicam brand turn-around to achieve impressive share growth and profitability. After his departure, the company was then acquired by private equity and Carl returned as interim CEO and member of the Board.

Since then, Carl has served on a number of public and private equity boards and associations, including Generic Pharmaceutical Association, Consumer healthcare Products Association, Scolar Pharmaceutical, and most recently with Prestige Consumer Healthcare, Inc. Presently, Carl continues his non-profit board advisory role with Phoenix Rescue Mission and several companies in the rapidly growing VMS sector.

Carl holds a BS in Economics & Business Administration from Wagner College in New York, and an MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.
